Band Story

Stuck out in the middle of the Great Plains, Grinnell, Iowa, can get unbearably cold and dull in winter. With nothing better to do, people talk.

So it was in 2006, when Eric Davidson and Matt Wingerter—musicians and friends since high school—began trading stories about their years in various local bands. Tired of the ambitionless scene, the two decided it was time to form something different. A band that captured the violence of school shootings, the brutality of police riots. A sound whose melodies seduced the mind while its lyrics tore it bare. They knew the world needed Dead Horse Trauma.

Formed to jolt the complacent and celebrate the awakened, the band aims to reach generations of anesthetized Americans—born and raised in the corporate womb to accept what they’re given. Dead Horse Trauma doesn’t ask for rebellion—it demands it. And it delivers with a high-voltage charge.

Several musicians came and went in the early years, but after a few line-up changes, the roster locked in: Eric on vocals, Seth Peters on guitar, Joey Wies handling samples, Jarrod Mienke on bass, and Jason Handy literally torturing the Zildjians behind the kit. Together, they bring a polished rage to the stage, breathing explosive life into songs that seethe and burn.

Dead Horse Trauma has headlined festivals, opened for acts like (hed)pe, Mower, Hemlock, and others, and carved out a loyal following throughout the Midwest.

Now, DHT has unleashed its newest aural assault: Infestation. The full-length record takes their industrial aggression to the next sonic level, delivering a one-two punch of brute-force impact and razor-sharp musicality. Following their debut EP, The Unmerciful Infliction, this release dials up the fire and fury while tightening the hooks and sharpening the blade.

With titles like “Cadaver,” “Unmerciful Strike,” and “Chemicult,” don’t come looking for bubblegum choruses or polished pop veneers. This is ten tracks of industrial Sturm und Drang, all written collaboratively by the band. Produced by Dead Horse Trauma in partnership with The 660 Group (Donnie Mengwasser and Spencer Fenimore of Mindrite, High While Driving, and Boston Hell Mask), the album was mastered by Ari of Victory Records’ band Destrophy for InnerLight Records. Drummer Jason Handy designed the artwork and interior layout. The album is released through EMFDPRODCO, an imprint founded by the band.
