Brett Kingswell & Jackfish River

Band Story
A product of small-town Ontario, Canadian rock musician Brett Kingswell began his musical journey in his early 20s, after picking up an acoustic guitar for the first time—a moment that set him on a natural and life-shaping path.
A soulful singer-songwriter, dynamic performer, and distinct individual, Brett’s fierce dedication and love for music shine through in his unique brand of country-laced rock. Traveling both locally and abroad as a professional musician, actor, and model, Brett’s many life experiences have helped shape the landscape of his infectious lyrics, trademark sultry voice, and notable musical maturity.
Fueled by his passion for music, Brett was signed to New York City’s 5 Points Records in 2003, immediately after penning and recording his first songs with his debut project, Carnival Divine. The result was a powerful debut album produced by Grammy-winning engineers Ron Allaire (Keith Richards, Steely Dan) and Jon Mover (Joe Satriani, Alice Cooper). It led to compelling performances across Canada and the U.S., and original material featured on national television in the U.S.
After spending time writing, performing, and recording with producer Doug Fury (guitarist for Bif Naked) on Canada’s west coast, Brett returned to Toronto in early 2008 to launch his new project: Jackfish River—a "Northern Rock" experience blending riff-driven rock with quirky country, a dash of blues, deep-driving hooks, and Brett’s unmistakable vocals. Songs like “Came to Fight” have audiences chanting the chorus after just one listen, while intimate acoustic pieces like Brett’s rendition of Alanis Morissette’s “Uninvited” showcase the emotional depth of this spirited artist.
An engaging and eclectic group of some of Canada’s most talented and interesting musicians, Jackfish River features:
Brett “Jackfish” Kingswell – vocals, guitar
Shane “Shakin’ Jamaican” Forrest – lead guitar
Rob “Reverend Funk” Melvin – bass
Leo “Meximus” Zayas – drums
The band delivers an energetic and unforgettable live experience. In 2008 alone, they played standout shows at North by Northeast (NXNE), Indie Week, and opened for Edwin (formerly of I Mother Earth), gaining a fast-growing fanbase.
With a busy schedule of Canadian dates on the horizon, you can catch Brett performing live with Jackfish River or in a more intimate solo acoustic setting. With confidence, commitment, and an unwavering dedication to his craft, Brett Kingswell is reaching for the stars—and beyond.
