The Turn: Poised to Set a New Standard for West Coast Rock

Band Members:
Phil Gardner – Drums
Don Beaudoin – Bass
Corey Crawford – Guitar
Patrick Gavigan – Vocals/Guitar

Teaming up with renowned producer Frank Gryner (Rob Zombie, A Perfect Circle), The Turn has crafted ten powerful, hard-hitting songs scheduled for release in early 2008.

Winners of 99.3 The Fox’s (CFOX) annual SEEDS contest in 2005–2006—the same contest that helped launch the careers of Nickelback, Default, Bif Naked, and Matthew Good—The Turn quickly established themselves as one of Vancouver’s rising rock acts. Over the past year and a half, the band has performed more than 150 live shows, opening for major Canadian acts including Faber Drive, Marianas Trench, Lillix, The Trews, illScarlett, Danko Jones, and the Armchair Cynics.

Debut Album and Production
When the band began recording their debut album, they caught the attention of Frank Gryner. “Recording in Vancouver at the Factory Studios and mixing in Hollywood at the Chop Shop was a great experience for us,” says frontman Patrick Gavigan. “We had the chance to really explore without limitations. We didn’t have to worry about equipment or tone—it was all about capturing the right performance.”

With their high-energy shows and hook-driven sound, The Turn is ready to set a new standard for West Coast rock as they hit the road in spring 2008.

Radio Success and Recognition
The Turn combines infectious, hard rock anthems with outstanding musicianship and commanding vocals. Their live performances are dynamic, but their success hasn’t been limited to the stage. On CFOX radio, their single “Cut to Pieces” debuted at No. 5 and jumped to No. 2 just days later. Their follow-up single, “The Innocence You Fake,” entered the charts at No. 3.

The video for “Cut to Pieces” was added to the MuchMusic AXS website and quickly rose to their “Top Rated Videos” section. The band has also become a fixture on Vancouver’s airwaves, performing acoustic versions of their songs on the 6 O’Clock Rock Report for CFOX multiple times. Fan demand led them to release several acoustic tracks via their MySpace page.

Career Highlights and Awards
Formed in early 2004, The Turn earned a spot on the CFOX SEEDS Compilation CD with their very first live performance—an impressive feat given the 500+ submissions from Vancouver and surrounding regions.

They continued to build momentum, earning accolades at the Emergenza Festival, the world’s largest battle of the bands, with over 7,500 groups competing. The Turn took home two awards in the Vancouver finals:

Best Drummer – Phil Gardner

Best Vocalist/Guitarist – Patrick Gavigan

At the 2005 New Music West conference, Patrick Gavigan was again honored with the “Best Vocalist” award. The band was invited to perform at the exclusive “Best of the Fest” encore showcase, with only four acts selected out of more than 500 participants.

The Band

Don Beaudoin (Bass): A graduate of Cambria College, one of Canada's top music schools, Beaudoin lays the foundation of the band’s sound.

Corey Crawford (Lead Guitar): Known for his unique approach, Crawford adds melodic depth and stylistic nuance.

Phil Gardner (Drums): Widely recognized as one of Vancouver’s best drummers, Gardner brings an articulate, aggressive style that fuels the band’s momentum.

Patrick Gavigan (Vocals/Guitar): The band’s principal songwriter and dynamic frontman, Gavigan delivers vocals that range from ghostly smooth to powerfully gritty. His tight rhythm guitar work and melodic instincts define The Turn’s sound.

What’s in a Name?
The Turn symbolizes those pivotal moments of choice in life—good or bad, yes or no—that shape our futures. Everyone has a “turn.”

Industry Buzz
“If I were a betting man, my money would be on The Turn. I've watched them grow into talented, hard-working, self-motivated musicians who write great rock songs full of hooks and what I call ‘The Head-Bob Factor.’ Plus, they're genuinely nice guys. Watch for them to break out of Vancouver in 2008. The Turn is poised to be the next big thing out of Western Canada—you can bet on it.”
