Powerful, mind engraining, effortlessly engaging, gutsy, provocative, poignant and diverse, are some of the words and phrases that critics have used to describe Fran Gray’s music. From the N.E.A (National Endowment for the Arts) funded and endorsed CD, Singular Intent, to her award winning follow-up, Eclectic Encounter, the music of this West Coast artist has elicited attention and interest world-wide.
Her first CD, Singular Intent, emphasized lyrical substance through intriguing musical passages in a purely pop setting drawing comparisons from the press with Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow and the Lilith Fair movement.
Her follow-up CD, Eclectic Encounter, had Gray behind the engineering console, which led to her assembling her own studio. There she would delve into scores of “middle of the night” recording sessions amassed from sweat, blood, love and drive. The result was a CD that won magazine and radio awards as well as recognition that continues to reverberate with a resounding response.
Look for Fran’s new CD, Contemplating the Sun, early in 2008.
