Band Story

Tom Lenahan founded The Clan, one of North America's first Celtic rock bands, in 1986. After eight years, three albums, and thousands of miles on the road, the band regrouped and rebranded under the name Lenahan in 1994. Since then, they have released four additional albums on Clandestine Celtic Records™, sold thousands of copies, and continued to tour extensively both nationally and internationally.

The band's debut CD, Lenahan, reflects Tom Lenahan's musical roots—growing up Irish American in the blues city of Chicago. With its fusion of Celtic roots, rock, and blues, the album has received critical acclaim in both the U.S. and abroad. Irish critic John O'Regan remarked, "Celtic rock & rhythm & blues delivered with a fiery attack and a passionate flair... Lenahan is a killer; beg, steal or borrow it."

In 1998, the band released Contrary Motion, a spirited and sensitive album featuring both traditional and original Irish music. Celtic Beat critic Joanne Gagnon praised the release: "Superb piping... dazzling instrumentals... absolutely gorgeous... never have I heard pipes played so gently and romantically."

1999 saw the release of the highly anticipated live album Hooligans in Suits – Live in the U.K.. Music critic Dan Willging of Dirty Linen magazine stated, “Lenahan defines the term Celtic rock… captivating… intoxicating… Lenahan achieves a perfect balance. Simply put, Lenahan is Celtic rock.”

In 2003, the band released Brand New Bag, considered their most adventurous album to date. Celtic Beat magazine raved, "Masterfully arranged… from fierce instrumentals to expressive vocals… (Tom Lenahan's) piping abilities and repertoire are incredible."

Based in New York City, the four members of Lenahan are:
Tom Lenahan – vocals, guitars, pipes, bodhrán, whistles
Clarence – fiddle, guitars, mandolin
Eamon Cronin – drums, bodhrán, percussion
Brendan O’Grady – bass

The band also features Irish step dancers Bridget and Maggie, who have won numerous national and international competitions and hold titles as both All-Ireland and North American Champions.

Lenahan's compelling live performances have garnered widespread acclaim. The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences invited them to perform at Grammyfest. The Irish Echo called Tom Lenahan "a hit" at the Guinness Fleadh, and the U.K.'s prestigious Gosport Festival praised their performance as “simply stunning.”

As the Nottingham Evening Post summed it up:
“The most exciting band… I was quite awestruck… anything else was rather flat by comparison.”
