Band Story
1/2 MAD POET: A Raw Rock Experience That’s Anything But Ordinary
1/2 MAD POET is a dynamic rock trio from Chicago known for their high-octane live performances and genre-blending sound. With roots in diverse musical backgrounds, the band merges raw energy and artistic depth to create a concert experience that is as powerful as it is unpredictable. Their infectious enthusiasm and connection with the crowd ensure that every show feels both intimate and electric—welcoming devoted fans and first-timers alike.
Despite their varied influences, 1/2 MAD POET maintains a tight, cohesive musical identity. Their name symbolizes the duality of their sound: “mad” for the unrestrained, passionate artist, and “poet” for the thoughtful, deliberate lyricist. This balance is evident in their performances, where fervor meets finesse and spontaneity is underpinned by skill.
The trio has performed in a wide range of venues, from house parties and local bars to national festival stages. Notably, they played Lilith Fair in 1998 and have shared stages with high-profile acts including Joan Jett, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, Evil Beaver, Warrant, and "Weird Al" Yankovic. Their reach has extended across more than 11 states, from Minnesota to Texas, continually growing their fanbase with every stop.
Guitarist and lead vocalist Anita Chase has been writing and performing since the age of 16. Her musical history spans country, folk, punk, and rock, and her powerful vocals have drawn comparisons to legends such as Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, and Ann Wilson. Her aggressive guitar style and emotive delivery anchor the band’s sound.
Bassist and vocalist Sheela Reddy began her music education with classical piano before discovering her passion for bass guitar. Sheela’s versatility spans jazz, Latin, musical theatre, classical, blues, and funk rock. Her rhythmic, melodic bass lines bring a unique blend of groove and grit, influenced by artists as varied as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Bee Gees, and Mötley Crüe.
Drummer and vocalist Chandler rounds out the trio with powerful percussion, soulful vocals, and a sharp sense of humor. After a stint with blues-rock band TK04, she returned to 1/2 MAD POET, bringing her blues-tinged style and unshakable rhythm back to the group’s evolving sound.
1/2 MAD POET’s dedication to their craft and commitment to delivering unforgettable live performances have earned them a reputation as a must-see act. Whether headlining a festival or playing a dive bar, the band leaves everything on stage—and the audience buzzing with energy.
