Olio

Band Story
Olio: Three Brothers. One Sound. Infinite Vibes.
What do a film composer, a DJ, and a Director of Music and Arts have in common? Turns out, a whole lot of groove. These three brothers from other mothers (and fathers) — hailing from OC, Chi-Town, and DC — came together to form Olio, a genre-blending musical collective that’s equal parts heart, hustle, and heat.
Inspired by a sonic stew of influences ranging from Black Sabbath to Barry White, Olio stirs up an eclectic blend of hip-hop, funk, soul, rock, and just the right dash of pop — and serves it up hot. Whether it's songs about break-ups, make-outs, shake-ups, or good old-fashioned four-letter words, Olio brings the noise with electrifying, positive energy straight out of their Los Angeles studio.
The Band
Onstage, it’s a beautiful kind of chaos:
Arif sings and breaks guitar strings (sometimes his right hand just gets heavy).
DeHaven lays down the grooves on drums and croons when the lights are low and the mood is right.
Matt plays bass so wickedly, even his ex-girlfriend still gets jealous — and yes, he’s been known to test new material for his side gig in stand-up comedy between songs.
The Music
Olio’s latest project, “Living The Dream,” is an 11-track ride through emotion, energy, and eclectic excellence. From the nylon-stringed sweetness of “Completely Beautiful” — a touching ode to parenthood that snagged an Honorable Mention in the 2008 West Coast Songwriters International Competition — to a hard rock/rap collaboration that’s got 20,000 NJ Devils fans chanting “Here We Go” at the Prudential Center, this album hits every note.
Their cheeky homage to the fútbol femme fatale, “Soccer Mom,” inspired one UK critic to call them “sexist and as subtle as a sledgehammer.” (To be fair, Olio still thinks Benny Hill, John Cleese, and Ricky Gervais are funny — so they’re cool with it.)
Their sound? Think the soulful punch of John Mayer Trio, fused with the thematic ambition of Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life. It’s rich, it’s rhythmic, and it packs a serious punch.
The Experience
In between studio sessions, Olio is hitting stages across the West and the Rockies — with plans to head East soon. But a word to the wise: experiencing Olio only on record is like watching Vader without the Darth.
Whether they play for 30 minutes or 3 hours, these three generate enough energy to power a small town — or maybe even Zeta-Reticulan 5, if you’re into interstellar metaphors.
So maybe the real question isn’t Who or What is Olio —
…it’s When and Where?
